Ready to Ride

Our guide didn’t show, so we did our best to find our way.  We started out near the race course in Provo Canyon and climbed the fire road for a while until we hit some singletrack. Then we climbed some more (yes, some of us hiked).

After about 20 minutes, a few of us realized we’d separated from Wes’ group, so we did what any good Boy Scout would do – we kept going. With Aaron leading the way, we rode (hiked) up more single track. We got to what I thought was a manageable grade, so I threw a leg over my bike to start riding again. Two revolutions of the cranks mixed with some weaving and I was listing hard to the port-side. My Crank Bros pedals showed no mercy, and over the edge I went.

So, I continued to hike the edge of the cliff whilst the others rode off without me. They were kind enough to wait once we hit another fire road.  After a bit, we shot left up another chute (because when you’re lost in the mountains – you keep going up away from base camp). Finally we saw three riders way off in the distance.

We screamed and finally got their attention – somehow Aaran was able to decipher their screaming to mean that we should turn around and continue on the fire road to get to them – which we did.

From there, it was decided that Alter wasn’t doable since I was with the group, so we proceeded to the downhill where I demonstrated the stopping power of my disc brakes to Clay for the entire run. He didn’t thank me as he shot past me at the next open section – but I’m sure he was grateful.

The ride ended with a gentle cruise down the Provo River bike trail. Well, gentle for most of us. For one of us, there was a wheelie which became an assie. Then there was a front tire which slipped off the edge of the trail resulting in a spectacular display of over-the-bars tumbling skills.

At the parking lot, we met up with Dan. He said he’d quit after just a few minutes because it was cold – but we know better. He’d probably ridden up to Alter and beyond twice in the time it took us to ride the bike trail back to the cars.

Dan the man did Lambert Park last night and said it is good to ride. So knowing it’s dry there right now it’s a good, safe ride for tonight. We will meet at the Bowlry (spelling???) parking lot at 5:30pm.

I couldn’t make last weeks ride but everyone said Ghost Falls was AWESOME!
It’s that time again; get your votes in now for this weeks ride on Thursday 5-13-10. We’ll have to watch the weather again as it say’s rain for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and some of Thursday.

With all the rain and snow off & on we are not biking tonight. It’s going to be nice all week next week so we will plan on next Thursday.

It still say’s rain and snow for tonight and tomorrow but I haven’t seen any yet! So we will plan on doing the Provo race area again; or for the first time if you weren’t there the first time. We will meet at the Timpanogos Park at 5:30 pm; it’s up Provo canyon on the left side. THIS IS WEATHER PERMITTING OF COURSE. Check the blog after 2:30 pm for the final word.

It looks like good weather all week until Wednesday again; Tuesday however is 73 and sunny! Does anyone want to ride Tuesday this week? With that being said please remember to tell all of your fiends, single or married – we take both. For all you single honeys out there we do have Clay and Wes that love walks on the beach in the moonlight, good conversation and long bike rides. Guy’s don’t worry; they swing both ways (road or mtn bike) so you can come too!

Also, post your weekly ride recommendations in so we can put together a calendar and ride a number of different trails this year.

We are also debating on putting together a weekly road ride; let me know if you’re interested in that and what night (NOT Thursday) would be best or Saturday morning?

This weeks trip was a lot of fun.  Thanks to everyone that came.  We met at the Bowery at Lambert Park.  The first run left a few of us lost and separated from the group, but we eventually all got back together for another run.  I don’t recall all the loops that we rode because of the numerousones available.  Thats one of the good things about ridding Lambert Park.  There are so many trails available that its easy to keep finding new routes to take.   There are so many awesome trails in Utah Valley and the souronding areas.  Not pictured were Scott and Dan because I forgot to take a picture before we left.  Next time.  Thanks to Timp Cyclery for making these weekly groups rides happen.  It fun learning new trails and meeting new people.  See yall next week

So is anyone else as tired of the wet weather as I am?  Im ready to get some ridding in.  This week we are going to try again for Lambert Park at 530 pm.  The weather is looking good for the week so we should be able to ride.  Check back wednesday night just in case.  Let me know if you have any questions mark 801-360-4237.  See yall there

Thanks to everyone that came on the ride! It was a lot of fun.  The trail was dry and the weather was great.  We did a couple of laps on the race course at the mouth of Provo Canyon.  Dan lead the way followed by Ethan, Clay, Ryan, Trevor, Jordan, Jason, and Scott.  These weekly rides are lots of fun, and a great way to learn some of the awesome trails in the area.  If anyone has a trail they think the group would enjoy riding, let me know.  See yall next week

We had such a great trip this past weekend!  Thanks to Timp Cyclery for organizing it, and to everyone that participated.  This year we went to ride the amazing trials in around St George and Hurricane Utah.  We had a great turn out (I think we counted 18 riders).  Ryan found a sweet hotel for us to crash in Hurricane.

We all met in the parking lot early to caravan to Gooseberry Mesa outside of Hurricane.  The road was a bit rutted out so we left the trailer at the hotel. 

At the trail head, we took some time to air up the tires, adjust some bikes, and gather our stuff.

There were several ride leaders that set a good pace for our large (17 riders and 1 crazy runner) group.

We spent some time at the over look enjoying the view and the conversation. 

I love the views in this area. 

We rode out to the point of the mesa and the views just kept getting better.

This is a great trail to ride because there is stuff for all skill levels.  If you want to get crazy like Scott you can, or if you would rather keep it simple you can.  Everyone did great, and I think we all had a lot of fun, even with all the bumps and scrapes.

After some lunch, and a quick change into some clean clothes, we headed down to St George for our second ride.  We split into 2 groups, one of which rode Zen, and the other did the race course(I think).  The group I went with rode Zen so I dont have any pictures of the other group.

 As always thanks to Timp Cyclery for making this trip happen.  They put in a lot of time and sacrafice for it.  It was a great time.  Also thanks to everyone that came and enjoyed the company.  Its is a fun group to ride with.  Im already looking forward to next years trip.  But until then, join us every week for a ride around here.  Be sure to check the blog each week to see where we are meeting.  If you would like any of the pictures, let me know.  See yall on the trails.

For our first ride of the season, we did a rode ride since the trails were still soggy.  We met at the shop at 5pm, but it was probably closer to 530 before we were able to start ridding.  Dan, Wes, Nate, Ryan, and I were all excited to get this first group ride under our belts.  This was the first ride for Ryan on his new bike, and Wes was trying out his new single speed Langster.  We all took turns leading the group up towards Alpine.  With the light restrictions, we weren’t able to ride for very long.  The time change is going to be nice to have more time in the evening.

 We will not be having a group ride for the week of March 18th because of the Timp Cyclery St George trip.  Its going to be such a great time and I hope to see yall there.  The weather is getting better so come next week we should be good to start ridding in the mountains.  A post will be made later in the week to give the location.  Thanks to all that participate in these activities, especially Timp Cyclery for making it all happen.

We had another great trip snowshoeing this week!  We went up Pine Hollow again, but because of the poor weather decided against having a fire.  There was some fresh snow, but we did end up walking on the dirt in the exposed areas.  The higher we got the better the snow was.  It was really coming down when we left.

Jason on the left, with Bryan and his two boys in the middle.  Those kids are really good at snowshoeing.  They had to turn back early because of time constraints and prior commitments.  It sure was fun to have them there.

Wes, Nate, Adam, Ryan, and I continued to the upper field.  Even with the little moon light, the view was great.  This is where the snow really started to fall.
